Runnymede Hotel Wedding Photography

History of Runnymede Hotel

I have photographed several weddings at Runnymede Hotel over the years. I always feel a sense of awe at the history of this special part of England.

King John signed the Magna Carta in 1215, at Runnymede. Many of the nobles in England, tired of losing their power and concerned by the tyrant-like behaviour of John, came together and wrote a document called the Magna Carta. This has become one of the most important documents in history. It guaranteed the people certain rights, and bound the king to certain laws.

After writing the document these nobles forced King John to sign it on threat of civil war. Their intention was only to protect the rights of nobles. They did not particularly care about poor peasants. Nevertheless, in time, the rights established by the Magna Carta were also extended to commoners.

Fast forward almost 800 years to the 21st Century, and this modern riverside hotel and civil ceremony wedding venue offers you the opportunity to create your own bit of history.

Photographing weddings at Runnymede Hotel

My favourite backdrop at the Runnymede hotel has to be the River Thames itself! There’s nothing to beat having a fabulous scene like this in the background of your wedding pictures! The hotel also has a fabulous extensive meadow area at the front of the building, the tall grasses and wild flowers look incredible for pictures during the summer months.
