Danesfield House Wedding Photography

History of Danesfield House Hotel

I love capturing the photography for a wedding at Danesfield House Hotel; it’s a beautiful venue with amazing views over the River Thames.  However, behind that gorgeous exterior it has a fascinating past!

The current house was built in the Italian renaissance style in 1901, set within a 65 acre country estate. It was built by the wealthy heir to the Sunlight Soap Company.

Snowy white chalkstone which is native to this part of England was used in its construction. In fact, its dreamy appearance and very detailed exterior resulted in locals knowing it as ‘The Wedding Cake’.

During the second world war this grand building played a major role in the Allied victory.  The Royal Air Force requisitioned Danesfield as an intelligence base. In fact, during its occupation they renamed it RAF Medmenham!

Whether you’re organising a lavish wedding gathering for over one hundred guests or an intimate affair for your closest friends and family, this is a beautiful venue.  The elegant interiors and exteriors, wonderful elevated gardens and luxurious spa facilities provide all the perfect ingredients for your special day.

My favourite rooms at Danesfield House are the very grand Versailles Suite and Great Hall. The Versailles Suite with its opulent high ceilings, mirrored walls, and dramatic chandeliers will truly take your breath away. The Great Hall is equally stunning; the high ceilings, massive floor to ceiling windows, elaborate oak panelling, and huge stone fireplace make for an amazing first impression. I also adore their billiards room, discreetly located high up on a mezzanine floor within the Great Hall itself.

The gardens provide the most tranquil haven to explore. First, you admire the formal Italian garden with its fine box topiary and acers surrounding the Koi fishpond. Then your eye leads you to the wisteria clad walls, the beautifully manicured topiary and lavender hedging around the central fountain. Finally, the hotel has outstanding views over the River Thames and the Chiltern Hills; you really have to see its amazing elevated hilltop location to appreciate it.

Danesfield House provides the most spectacular backdrop for a wedding photography, and we certainly couldn’t ask for a more enchanting venue.
