Missenden Abbey Wedding Photography

Missenden Abbey have recommended me for wedding photography for the past 20 years. As a result, I’ve attended over 125 weddings in this glorious location.

History of Missenden Abbey

The Abbey has a history of over 800 years. Augustinian Canons from Northern France founded it in 1133. Then, Henri III enjoyed the Abbot’s hospitality on a number of occasions. When he dissolved the monasteries, Henry VIII left the abbey to his daughter, Princess Elizabeth.

Fast forward to 1815, and the Carrington family purchased the Abbey. They then settled in Buckinghamshire and devoted themselves to managing their extensive farms in the County. The Carrington family sold the house in 1946 to the Buckinghamshire County Council for use as an Adult Learning College.

Following a major fire in 1985, the County Council restored the Abbey to its earlier splendour: vaulted rooms, the ceremonial staircase, stained glass and ornate plasterwork.

Photographing weddings at Missenden Abbey

When it comes to picture opportunities, Missenden Abbey has so many options. If I think of a dream wedding location, I have a long wish list for my ideal backdrops! So, Missenden Abbey ticks every box – wonderful historic property, beautiful grounds, fabulous architectural features, stained glass windows, high ceilings, riverside location etc.

However, my favourite backdrop is the view from underneath the venue’s famous 500 year old cedar tree; the branches frame the abbey beautifully. There is not a wedding I attend when I don’t visit this dreamy spot with the newlyweds. It looks incredible in daylight, but my favourite time is at dusk when the abbey is floodlit.

If you’re getting married at Missenden Abbey and would like to discuss your wedding photography requirements, I’d love to hear from you.
